12 June 2025, Air India Flight AI 171, a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, tragically crashed just after takeoff from Ahmedabad to London, killing 241 people on board and 19 on the ground, with only one survivor. The aircraft struck the B.J. Medical College hostel, causing a massive fire and widespread devastation. This was the first fatal crash of a Dreamliner since its introduction in 2011. Preliminary investigations revealed that the engines shut down after the fuel control switches moved to “cutoff”, raising concerns of possible intentional interference. The tragedy led to global mourning, compensation pledges, and renewed scrutiny of aviation safety standards.
